Ever since I can remember I have had a very strong desire to travel - anywhere. When I was young, I would look at maps and wonder what the faraway places were like, really like, not just on the surface but the people and the culture. As an adult, I have been lucky enough to travel to many different places in the Caribbean and Mexico.
In about 10 years, we plan to retire and travel as much as possible. I hope to be travelers and not tourists. I want to experience the place and not just see it. I'm talking trekking in Nepal and going to the base camp of Mt. Everest. I don't need to climb the mountain just because it's there. But I would like to see it for myself and take my own pictures to add to my bucket list of wanted photos.
I have a bucket list of places and photos in my mind but the list is not complete. The list is too long to complete. It ranges from Patagonia to the Great Pyramids, the Arctic Circle to Bali and everywhere between. Some things on my list have been hypothetically crossed out but many of those are back on the list because once is not enough - like crossing the equator or seeing the Southern Cross. Technically I did get to see it while I was in Ecuador but it was only a fleeting glimpse. I need to see it again.
I have a subscription to Condé Nast Traveler - but only because it was free. The magazine is nice but it is so not me. If I could actually afford to travel that way all the time, the experience would end up being so unfulfilling. The National Geographic Travel Magazine is a little better. Like I said before, I don't want to be a tourist; I want to be a traveler. The biggest and best hotels and resorts are not where I want to be. Don’t get me wrong, they would be nice to visit occasionally but I want to experience more.
This blog has been created as a place for me to log my travels and post some pictures. I am not a writer nor do I have a desire to be one. My grammar and spelling may not always be correct but that's okay with me....I have more important things to be concerned with. See right there - I know I'm not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition, but I don't have a problem with it.
