The Everglades

Everglades National Park

Contrary to what many people think, the Everglades is not a huge swamp filled with alligators and snakes.  In reality the Everglades is a slow moving river.  It starts just south of Orlando from the Kissimmee River to Lake Okeechobee.  As the lake overflows, a very slow moving sheet of water flows to the Florida Bay.

also known as The River of Grass

Once they were endangered, now there over one million alligators in Florida - the majority residing in the Everglades

Though it doesn't appear to be, the water is very clear and feels incredibly clean and refreshing.

It's not all sawgrass.

Cypress Trees

Mangroves

In the morning when the sun light is at the right angle, you can get a glimpse of all the spider webs on the grasses.

Quoted from a 14 year old boy "I really didn't care about visiting the Everglades until I actually got here and saw there was so much more to it than I realized.
This is a really cool place.  Thanks for bringing me here."

Now that makes it all worth it!
