Bus Trip to Progreso

.

The town of Progreso is to the north of Merida on the coast.  It is a major port for the Yucatan and has the longest pier in the world - 4.5 miles long.

Many people from Merida own beach homes along this coast of the Yucatan and that's where they spend the months of July and August.  At other times of the year, Progreso and its neighboring communities can be very laid back, quiet fishing villages - as long as there isn't a cruise ship in port.

In the summer, you can find a bus from Merida to Progresso running about every 10 minutes.  Just hop on and enjoy the 30 minute ride in the air conditioned bus.  The cost is 16 pesos - less than $1.50 USD.

Once you get there you can enjoy the beach......

...swimming

....or having a great lunch of fresh seafood
we miss you Patrick  :(

.....while listening to live music.
