A Day in Progreso

Progreso is about 25 miles from Merida on the Gulf of Mexico.  Getting there is easy.  You can walk to the bus station or catch one headed north on calle 64 on its way out of the city.  They leave often, we caught one within minutes of walking down 64.
The one way cost is 18 pesos per person.  That's about $1.30 US.   These are air-conditioned coach buses.
It took 45 minutes to get there, about 25 of those minutes were spent getting out of the city.

Progreso is the major port of the Yucatan.  Their 4+ mile pier is visible in satellite photos.
We chose a day when no cruise ships were in port.  A nicer more laid back time to visit.

Chips and Pico de Gallo, followed by chicken nachos and papas fritas.

 Doing a little summer reading.....

 Doing a little meditating.......

Getting a little  LOT of sun.......

The trip back is just as easy.  Get your ticket, board the a/c bus, sit back and relax.  When the bus gets close to your street, just say "Quiero Bajar, Por Favor" and the driver pulls over.

Progreso beach day - great value for US $2.60!
