Getting to Merida

Flights from the US to Merida can be a bit pricey with a long layover in Houston and arriving late into Merida.  However, there is a way to get there for about half the cost, in about the same amount of time and a lot more comfortably.
First, fly to Cancun.  There are often better prices into CUN.
Then take a 4 hour trip to Merida on the ADO or as they say in Mexico "Ah-Day-Oh".
It's a bus!  However, this is not your ordinary bus....

If you take the platino, not only is the bus first class, but the waiting area is too.  You get to wait in your own private air-conditioned section with nice clean bathrooms!!

....and eat tacos from the vendor down the street!

Boarding the bus, passengers are treated like rock stars. Each is handed a beverage, and a personal bag containing eye-shades, hand sanitizer, headphones and mints. On board, you'll find airline-style restrooms and a self-service coffee/drink bar. The passenger area is surrounded in curtains with the drivers' area blocked off by a door.  The seats have a lot of space in which to stretch out and recline using the fold-down foot rests.  This is a large 47 passenger size bus with only 27 seats - a single seat row down one side and a double down the other.

Each seat has it's own TV built into the headrest. There are several movies & shows to view and music to listen to in Spanish and English.
Not a bad way to spend the next 4 hours traveling through the Yucatan jungle on the way to Merida.

The bus goes directly to the Fiesta Americana in downtown Merida.  From there, the taxis are waiting to take you away to your final destination.

For us that is Casa Paciencia!
